Niki Tse (b.2001, Hong Kong) is interested in creating spaces that meditate on memory and the transient nature of time. Working across disciplines, she is currently building on an archive of various photographs, drawings, and prints exploring themes of sentimentality, nostalgia, and the ephemeral.

Recently, intruiged by the conflicting duality of knots and entanglements, Niki's multidisciplinary exploration into their contrasting nature hopes to bring to mind notions of interconnections, fate, and chance: touching on the perpetual yearning we all seemingly have for something more.

The processes within Niki’s practice are largely intuitive. Playing with the relationship between chance and intention, she embraces the notion of serendipity and happy accidents — putting on the forefront the materiality of objects, and the surfaces she works with. She believes that abstraction resists immediate categorisation, hoping that her abstracted images will encourage a pause within the viewer, urging them to slow down and look. Ultimately, Niki’s practice strives to arouse a sense of tenderness, wonder and serenity within the beholder. 

She has studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria, and has completed a fine art degree with first class honours at Newcastle University.
